Political Action
If "all politics is local..." (and it is), refer to AFGE's Guide for Grassroots Organizers to help flex the power of our union.
CAUTION! Only AFGE Union officials may use government time and resources to lobby congress. Rank and file workers must use their own time and resources to contact congress.

Email your Senators and your Representative - Contact your local Media
Send E-mail to Congress... Note: When you click on the GO button, a page on the CONGRESS.ORG site will open.
Fill in your 5 digit zip code or your zip plus 4 (sometimes needed to avoid an extra step). Click on GO. You will see the President, your Representative, and your Senators. Click on the link to "Compose your own message" right above their pictures. You can then unclick those you don't want to E-mail. You will need to fill in the Subject line, paste or compose your message, and fill in your contact information. (There is a place to click if you are a trusting soul and don't want to have to reenter this information next time.) Note the other selected by default buttons and unselect as your wish. Review everything carefully before clicking on "Send Message" at the bottom.

Similarly, you can select media outlets in your local area, and send E-mail to your choice:
You can also look up congressional contact information from the following links to the Senate and House web sites:
- For Senators, go to http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm. You will also find links there for sending E-mail, committees, legislation, etc.
- For Members of The House, go to http://www.house.gov/writerep/. From there, you can also send E-mail, chart legislation, look up committee assignments, go to their home pages, etc.
In the long run, you're ahead if you get to know your elected officials well enough to have their aides' email addresses and phone numbers. Nevertheless, someone probably keeps score on messages from the public sites above.
